Nebbiolo vs Sangiovese

Nebbiolo and Sangiovese are Italy's two most celebrated native red grapes, each anchoring wine culture in the north and centre of the country. Nebbiolo reigns in Piedmont in the wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. Sangiovese dominates Tuscany and beyond as Italy's most widely planted variety.

Late-ripening and temperamental. Thrives in the continental climate of Piedmont, where harvest arrives in late October, often shrouded in the region's characteristic autumn fog.
Sangiovese
Late-ripening and adaptable. Demands a longer, warmer growing season than Nebbiolo and is most at home in the varied hills of Tuscany.
