Les Carrières sits within the Chambolle-Musigny appellation in the Côte de Nuits, classified as a Premier Cru climat. At just 0.40 hectares, it ranks among the tiniest Premier Cru sites in the commune. The vineyard faces southeast, capturing morning sun that supports gradual ripening in Burgundy's cool continental climate. Its modest size means total production is extremely limited, and the wine rarely appears in broad commercial channels.

The name Les Carrières translates directly to 'the quarries,' a clear reference to the historical stone extraction that once took place on this hillside. The soils reflect that geological heritage: clay and fragmented white marl rest over dense calcareous bedrock, creating a structure that combines water retention with excellent drainage. An old stream bed bisects the vineyard, introducing subtle variation in soil depth and moisture across the parcel. This combination of shallow marl soils and hard limestone beneath is a hallmark of the finest Côte de Nuits terroir, driving the mineral intensity that characterizes the wines.

Les Carrières produces Pinot Noir of genuine elegance, consistent with the wider reputation of Chambolle-Musigny for finesse over power.
