The Fuisse-based estate built by Jean-Jacques Robert from 1989 and now run by his sons Nicolas and Antoine, working 13 hectares of certified organic and biodynamic Chardonnay across the southern Maconnais with old vines and unusually long elevage.
Domaine Robert-Denogent is a Pouilly-Fuisse estate based in the village of Fuisse in the southern Maconnais. The estate name reflects the marriage of Jean-Jacques Robert and his wife Anne-Marie Denogent. Jean-Jacques took over his grandparents' vines in 1989 and rebuilt the property into a quality reference across the 1990s and 2000s. His sons joined progressively: Nicolas in 2006 and Antoine in 2012. Jean-Jacques formally stepped back in 2015 while remaining close at hand. The estate works approximately 13 hectares across roughly 30 parcels spread between the Maconnais and northern Beaujolais, including old-vine Pouilly-Fuisse holdings (Les Reisses, La Croix, Les Cras), Saint-Veran, Macon-Solutre, Macon-Fuisse, and Macon-Villages bottlings. Robert-Denogent is certified organic and biodynamic, with a cellar style built around indigenous-yeast fermentations, minimum two winters of elevage in older Burgundy barrels, almost no battonage, and minimal sulfur intervention. The estate sits alongside Guffens-Heynen, Daniel Barraud, and Chateau des Rontets in the Maconnais quality reference set.

Jean-Jacques Robert and the 1989 Reset
The Denogent family began winegrowing in Fuisse in the early twentieth century. Andree Robert, born Denogent, brought a starting estate of about five hectares into the next generation. Her son Jean-Jacques Robert took over the family vines in 1989 and renamed the estate Robert-Denogent in recognition of both family lines. Across the 1990s and 2000s, Jean-Jacques pushed protocols toward dramatically restricted yields, late picking, and unusually long elevage in older barrels. The result was a Pouilly-Fuisse style that sat at the most concentrated and most cellar-worthy end of the regional spectrum and helped establish the case for premium Pouilly-Fuisse alongside contemporaries like Guffens-Heynen and Daniel Barraud.
- Denogent family farmed Fuisse vines from the early twentieth century; Andree Robert (nee Denogent) brought roughly five hectares into the modern estate
- Jean-Jacques Robert took over in 1989 and renamed the estate Robert-Denogent, recognising both family lines
- Across the 1990s and 2000s, Jean-Jacques pushed the estate toward restricted yields, late picking, and long elevage in older barrels
- Helped establish the case for premium Pouilly-Fuisse alongside Guffens-Heynen and Daniel Barraud across the same period
Nicolas, Antoine, and the 2015 Handover
Nicolas Robert, the elder son, joined the estate in 2006. His brother Antoine followed in 2012. In 2015 Jean-Jacques handed over the reins while remaining close at hand on the property. The succession has preserved the technical discipline of the founder generation: indigenous-yeast fermentations, minimum two winters of elevage in older Burgundy barrels, almost no battonage, and minimal sulfur intervention. The brothers have continued the parcel-by-parcel selection logic and have driven the formal certification of the estate's organic and biodynamic conversion, putting Robert-Denogent into the small group of certified Maconnais estates working at the apex quality tier.
- Nicolas joined in 2006; Antoine joined in 2012; Jean-Jacques formally handed over in 2015 while staying close at hand
- Succession preserved the founder generation's discipline: indigenous yeast, long elevage, no battonage, low sulfur
- Brothers have driven the formal organic and biodynamic certification of the estate
- Parcel-by-parcel selection logic continues with no general blends across the Pouilly-Fuisse range
Thirteen Hectares Across the Southern Maconnais
The estate covers approximately 13 hectares spread across roughly 30 parcels, with holdings in Fuisse, Solutre-Pouilly, Vergisson, Saint-Veran, and Macon-Villages communes. The Fuisse holdings include Les Reisses, a parcel of 60- to 90-year-old vines on argillaceous soil that was classified as one of the 22 Pouilly-Fuisse 1er Crus in the September 2020 INAO decree. Pouilly-Fuisse La Croix Vieilles Vignes comes from blue schistose soil with vines of around 80 years. Les Cras sits on the steep slope below the Roche de Solutre. Saint-Veran Le Clos de la Roche Roche, Macon-Fuisse Les Taches, and Macon-Villages Les Sardines round out the range at the more accessible price tiers. Replanting is done parcel by parcel using massale selection from the estate's own old vines.

Robert-Denogent is certified organic and biodynamic, a status that the brothers worked toward across the 2010s after a long period of de-facto organic farming under Jean-Jacques. The cellar protocols mirror the vineyard logic. After indigenous-yeast primary fermentation, the wines spend a minimum of two winters in older Burgundy barrels, often running longer for the apex bottlings. New oak is kept low, with most elevage in barrels of several years' age. Battonage is avoided to keep lees contribution textural rather than aromatic. The wines develop their character through slow oxygen exchange across two summers in barrel and bottle with minimal filtration and low sulfur additions. Releases run several years after vintage, with the apex cuvees often held back longer. The long-cycle approach is more typical of premier Cote de Beaune Chardonnay than of Maconnais white practice.
- Certified organic and biodynamic across the full estate
- Indigenous-yeast primary fermentation; minimum two winters elevage in older Burgundy barrels, often longer for apex cuvees
- New oak deliberately low; most elevage in older barrels; no battonage during aging
- Bottling with minimal filtration and low sulfur additions; releases run several years after vintage
