Deutz

Deutz was founded in 1838 in Aÿ by William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann, two German émigrés who had come to Champagne to enter the wine trade. The original company name, Deutz & Geldermann, reflected the partnership through the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries before being shortened to Deutz in the modern era. The Geldermann line continued to lead the Maison through several generations, with William Deutz's heirs retaining a parallel ownership stake. The Aÿ headquarters position, shared with Bollinger and other Aÿ-based Maisons, has remained constant since founding.
