History and Heritage
Edoardo Seghesio, an Italian immigrant, founded the winery in 1895 when he planted the first Zinfandel vines at what is now known as the Home Ranch Vineyard. The estate expanded in 1910 with the planting of Chianti Station Vineyard, which today holds the oldest Sangiovese vines in North America. Seghesio was among only 100 wineries that survived Prohibition between 1920 and 1933. In the decades that followed, the winery produced bulk wine and at one point made the majority of red wine in all of Sonoma County. In 1993, the family made a pivotal shift toward premium, estate-focused wine production. In 2011, Seghesio joined the Crimson Wine Group.

Vineyards and Terroir
Seghesio manages over 300 acres of certified sustainable estate vineyards spread across three Sonoma County appellations: Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, and Russian River Valley. Soils vary significantly by site, ranging from gravelly clay loam to shallow red volcanic soils and iron-rich red rocky soils. Some vineyard locations benefit from cool morning fog during the summer months, moderating temperatures and extending the growing season. This diversity of terroir allows the winery to express a broad range of Italian and Californian varietals with precision.
