Subirats family estate with viticulture documented to 1385 on the Heretat Can Llopart de Subirats; first sparkling wine produced in 1887 by Pere Massana i Casanelles, great-grandfather of 4th-generation Pere Llopart Vilarós; founding Corpinnat member with organic certification completed in 2013.
Llopart's viticultural heritage on the Heretat Can Llopart de Subirats is documented to a 1385 deed in the Subirats municipality of central Penedès, placing it among the oldest documented winegrowing estates in Europe. The first family sparkling wine was produced in 1887 by Pere Massana i Casanelles, the great-grandfather of Pere Llopart Vilarós, the 4th-generation cava maker who took the operation forward from 1953 onward. The estate today comprises about 95 hectares of vineyard within a 500-hectare property surrounded by 375 hectares of protected Mediterranean forest; the conversion to organic viticulture began in 2000 and full organic certification was completed in 2013. Llopart was one of the nine founding producers that formally left the Cava DO in February 2019 to launch the Corpinnat collective brand, which had been recognized by the EU intellectual property office in late 2017. The current generation includes Pere Llopart Vilarós's children, with the 5th generation now actively producing the family's full sparkling wine range from Imperial Brut Nature through the Leopardi Gran Reserva and the single-vineyard apex Ex-Vite.

1385 Estate Origins and the 1887 Sparkling Wine
The Heretat Can Llopart de Subirats is documented to a 1385 deed in the Subirats municipality of central Penedès, placing the family among the oldest documented winegrowing estates in Europe; the family describes itself as winegrowers since 1385. The first traditional-method sparkling wine on the property was produced in 1887 by Pere Massana i Casanelles, the great-grandfather of Pere Llopart Vilarós; Pere Massana began labeling his sparkling wine under the name of the family farmhouse in Subirats, Llopart, and the distinctive label introduced in 1887 still appears on every bottle from the house. The 1887 founding sits 15 years after Josep Raventós i Fatjó produced Spain's first traditional-method sparkling wine at Codorníu in 1872; Llopart represents the second generation of Penedès sparkling pioneers. Pere Llopart Vilarós, the 4th-generation cava maker, advanced the operation from 1953 forward and is the most prominent modern figure in the estate's history; his two sons and three daughters are the current 5th-generation active family members and their children are now beginning to enter the operation as the 6th generation.

Organic Estate at Subirats
Llopart's vineyard holdings comprise approximately 95 hectares of vine spread across 167 plots within a 500-hectare property; the vines are surrounded by approximately 375 hectares of protected Mediterranean forest of pine and oak, giving the estate one of the highest forest-to-vineyard ratios in commercial Penedès. The conversion to organic viticulture began in 2000 and was completed with full organic certification in 2013; the family farms without synthetic herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers, and operates under sustainable cultivation parameters rather than under formal biodynamic / Demeter certification. The vineyards center on the native Penedès trio of Xarel·lo, Macabeu, and Parellada with additional plantings of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Monastrell, Garnacha, and the historic Montònega grape used in the long-aged Original 1887 cuvée. The Les Flandes site sits within the family property and is formed by an amphitheater of vineyards raised on vertical walls of limestone rock up to 12 meters high from the Miocene era; the geology shapes the saline-mineral signature that defines Llopart's house style.

Cava DO Departure and Corpinnat (2019)
On 22 February 2019 Llopart joined eight other Penedès sparkling wine producers (Gramona, Recaredo, Torelló, Nadal, Sabaté i Coca, Mas Candí, Can Feixes Huguet, and Júlia Bernet) in formally leaving the Cava DO to launch the Corpinnat collective brand. The Corpinnat trademark had been recognized by the European Union Intellectual Property Office in late 2017; the nine founding producers used 2018 to negotiate with the Cava regulatory council over the right to display both Cava and Corpinnat on the same label, and when those negotiations failed they exited together. Corpinnat is not a denomination of origin but a registered EU collective brand owned and operated by the Association of Vintners and Producers Corpinnat (AVEC). Membership requires 100% organic farming, manual harvest, complete estate vinification including involvement of the winegrower in the value chain, minimum 90% indigenous grape varieties, and minimum 18 months on the lees; the territory is limited to the core Penedès cluster around Sant Sadurní d'Anoia. Llopart's wines now carry the Corpinnat designation prominently on the label, replacing the Cava DO branding used through 2018. The 2019 exit followed Raventós i Blanc's 2012 departure from Cava DO and is widely credited with accelerating the 2020 Cava DO regulatory overhaul that introduced Cava de Paraje Calificado.
