History and Heritage
Leone de Castris was founded in 1665 by Duke Oronzo Arcangelo Maria Francesco dei Conti de Lemos in the Salice Salentino area of Lecce province, Puglia. The estate achieved a landmark in 1925 when Piero Leone Plantera and Donna Lisetta de Castris became the first producers to bottle wine in Apulia. In 1943, the estate created Five Roses, the first rosé wine ever bottled and marketed in Italy. The 1943 original bottle is preserved in the on-site wine museum alongside historical documents tracing nearly four centuries of production.
