📜History and Origins

Katarzyna Estate sits on what was a post-World War II buffer zone between Bulgaria and Greece, land that had remained unused for agriculture for over 50 years before the estate's founding. The site carries a far longer viticultural history, however, as Thracian winemaking traditions in this region stretch back more than 5,000 years. The modern estate was founded in 2003, with construction and development culminating in a formal opening in 2007. The 12 million euro investment represented the largest single commitment to the Bulgarian wine industry at that time. The first vintage was produced in 2006.
