History and Heritage
The estate traces its origins to 1869, when Elena Walch's great-great-great-grandfather established the winery in South Tyrol. The cellar dates back approximately 300 years and still houses historic hand-carved oak barrels from 1873. Elena Walch married into the family in the 1980s and, in 1985, became the first female winemaker in all of South Tyrol. She launched her own brand in 1988 and drove a quality revolution across the region, championing a terroir-focused philosophy at a time when this approach was far from standard in Alto Adige. Since 2015, daughters Julia and Karoline Walch have led the estate as the fifth generation.

Terroir and Vineyards
The estate's 60 hectares sit at elevations between 300 and 600 meters above sea level, benefiting from a distinctive Alpine climate. The Alps to the north shield the vineyards from cold polar air, while mild breezes from the Po Valley to the south provide warmth. Cool mountain and glacier air maintains the freshness that defines the estate's wines. Soils are heterogeneous and of morainic origin, rich in porphyry and granite. The two celebrated single-vineyard sites anchor the portfolio: Vigna Castel Ringberg in Caldaro overlooks Lake Caldaro from a dramatic 63-degree slope, and Vigna Kastelaz in Tramin is the home of the estate's world-famous Gewürztraminer.
- Elevations range from 300 to 600 meters above sea level
- Morainic soils rich in porphyry and granite across both vineyard sites
- Castel Ringberg features a 63-degree slope overlooking Lake Caldaro
- Alpine climate provides both warmth from the south and cooling mountain breezes
