Douby (Morgon Climat)
How to Pronounce
Northeastern Morgon climat on the Fleurie border, producing immediately approachable, fruit-forward Gamay from sandy granite and alluvial soils.
Douby is one of six recognized climats within the Morgon AOC, sitting on the northern border with Fleurie. Sandy, granite-derived soils and altitudes between 220 and 480 meters give the climat a fruit-forward, approachable style of Gamay rather than the dense, structured profile of Côte du Py. Domaine Louis-Claude Desvignes farms 4.5 hectares in the climat for its La Voûte Saint-Vincent cuvée.
- One of six recognized climats of the Morgon AOC, alongside Côte du Py, Charmes, Corcelette, Grand Cras, and Les Micouds
- Located in the northeast of Morgon, sharing a border with the Fleurie cru
- Soils are alluvions and sands on a granite parent rock, shallow but rich
- Altitudes range from 220 to 480 meters with a southeast exposure
- Style is immediate and gourmand: red berries, violets, clear structure, light tannins
- Domaine Louis-Claude Desvignes holds 4.5 hectares in the climat, the basis for its La Voûte Saint-Vincent cuvée
Location and Position
Douby sits in the northeastern corner of the Morgon AOC, on the boundary with the neighboring Fleurie cru to the north. The climat lies northeast of Villié-Morgon, with vineyards arranged on hillsides that face southeast and rise from 220 meters at the base to nearly 480 meters at the highest parcels. The proximity to Fleurie and the granitic geology shared across the boundary give Douby a transitional character between the two crus. Douby is one of the six INAO-recognized lieux-dits eligible for label designation within Morgon.
- Northeastern Morgon, on the boundary with the Fleurie cru
- Northeast of Villié-Morgon; hillsides face southeast
- Altitudes range from 220 to 480 meters
- One of six recognized Morgon climats permitted on the label
Soils and Climate
Douby's soils are alluvions and sands on a granite bedrock, described locally as shallow but rich. The granite-derived parent material is the same family of rocks that runs through neighboring Fleurie, contrasting with the iron-rich blue diorite of Côte du Py at the other end of Morgon. The climate is oceanic with continental and southern (Mediterranean) influences, giving relatively warm growing seasons tempered by altitude. Vineyards on the higher slopes ripen later than those at the base, producing a range of styles within the climat itself.
- Alluvions and sands on a granite bedrock; shallow but rich profile
- Granitic geology shared with neighboring Fleurie
- Oceanic climate with continental and Mediterranean influences
- Altitude range gives stylistic variation within the climat
Wine Style
Douby wines lean toward immediate, gourmand, and fruit-forward expressions of Morgon. The sandy granite base produces wines focused on red berries and violets, with a clear structure but lighter tannins than Côte du Py. The style is approachable young and rewards drinking within the first 5 years rather than long cellaring. Producers describe Douby as a bridge between Morgon's structure and Fleurie's lift, anchored by its border location and granitic substrate.
- Red-berry-driven, perfumed Gamay with violets and lifted aromatics
- Clear structure with light, supple tannins
- Best drunk young to medium-term (3 to 6 years)
- Stylistic bridge between Morgon's depth and Fleurie's lift

Domaine Louis-Claude Desvignes farms 4.5 hectares in Douby, the basis for its La Voûte Saint-Vincent cuvée, named for the local chapel that gives parts of the climat their identity. Many growers blend Douby fruit into their general Morgon bottlings rather than vinifying it separately.
Fruit-forward Gamay with bright red cherry, raspberry, and violet. Tannins are light and supple, the body medium-light, the acidity vibrant. The wines feel immediate and approachable, with a granitic mineral edge that prevents the fruit from feeling sweet. Best in the first few years after release.
