📜History and Origins

The estate name traces back to John Denby, who owned the farmhouse in the 16th century. The property was rebuilt in the 1850s by Thomas Cubitt and received a visit from Prince Albert, who planted a commemorative tree that survived until the Great Storm of 1990. Adrian White purchased the estate in 1984, and vine planting began between 1986 and 1989. The chateau-style winery was completed in 1993, the same year the maiden wine, Surrey Gold, was released.

🌍Location and Terroir

Denbies sits within Surrey's North Downs on south-facing slopes, in a protected Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Soils combine chalky substrate with chalk and flint content, alongside fertile loam interspersed with flints, closely resembling the geology of Champagne. This combination of chalk, flint, and favourable aspect underpins the estate's strength in sparkling wine production.
