🏛️History and Origins

The Gras family story in Chile begins when José María Gras emigrated from Barcelona to Chile in 1910. The family purchased their first vineyard in the Colchagua Valley in the 1930s, establishing a wine legacy that would span four generations. In 1993, brothers Hernán and Eduardo Gras, along with partner Cristián Hartwig, formally founded MontGras as a modern wine producer. The winery quickly gained recognition when its Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva from the 1994 vintage was awarded Best Wine of Chile.

🌄Estates and Terroir

MontGras farms over 900 hectares across several distinct estates in Chile, each offering different soils and climatic conditions. The original San José estate in Colchagua sits at 150 metres elevation with clay and sandy soils. Ninquén, the pioneering mountain vineyard launched in 1998 at 300 metres, features volcanic soils and a cooler mountain influence. The Pumanque estate, located just 26 kilometres from the Pacific coast, benefits from maritime breezes and granitic soils. The Amaral property also sits in a coastal-influenced zone with granitic soils. The Intriga estate in Alto Maipo rounds out the portfolio, with alluvial sediments carried down from the Andes contributing to its distinctive character.
