History and Origins
Domaine Lucien Crochet was formed in the early 1950s through the merger of two family estates: those of André Crochet and Lucien Picard. Lucien Picard had already established himself as a pioneer by bottling Sancerre wines for the Paris market, a forward-thinking move that helped raise the appellation's profile. Lucien Crochet subsequently expanded the domain to its current size of 35 hectares. Since the early 1990s, the estate has been managed by Gilles Crochet and his wife Laurence, representing the third generation of family stewardship.

Terroir and Vineyards
The estate's vineyards are centred on the village of Bué, with additional plots spread across the communes of Sancerre, Crézancy, and Vinon. Elevations range from 240 to 280 metres, with slopes oriented from south-east through south to south-west, maximising sun exposure in this temperate continental climate. The soils are a combination of clay and limestone formed during the Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian eras, featuring calcareous clay with a stony Oxfordian subsoil. These ancient marine limestone soils are the source of the chalky minerality that defines the estate's wines.

Viticulture and Winemaking
Organic viticulture has been practiced at the domaine since 1989, with only organic fertilizers used throughout the vineyards. All grapes are hand-harvested with manual selection in the vineyard. The white wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness, aromatics, and the characteristic mineral precision of the Sancerre appellation. The estate produces 7 to 8 distinct cuvées, each designed to reflect the specific terroir of its source plots.
- Certified organic viticulture using exclusively organic fertilizers since 1989
- Hand-harvesting with manual grape selection
- Stainless steel fermentation for whites to retain freshness and aromatics
