Le Clos Gauthey is Monthélie's most historically significant Premier Cru, a walled 1.8-hectare vineyard on southwest-facing clay and limestone soils. Formed in the mid-1930s from two merged lieux-dits, it held the distinction of being the sole clos Premier Cru in Monthélie until 2006. Both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are permitted here.
