History and Family Legacy
The domaine traces its origins to the late 1920s, when Marcel Noëllat established the estate. Gaston Barthod married into the Noëllat family and assumed control of the domaine following his military service in the 1950s, at which point the name Domaine Barthod-Noëllat came into use. His daughter Ghislaine began managing the estate in 1986 and became sole director after Gaston's death in 1999. The domaine has maintained a partnership with Louis Boillot, with separate vinification and commercial operations kept distinct. In 2018, Ghislaine's son Clément Barthod joined management, continuing the family's generational stewardship.

Vineyards and Terroir
The domaine's 5.86 hectares span the Chambolle-Musigny commune and the neighboring village of Gilly-les-Citeaux. Soils across the holdings are limestone gravel with characteristically thin topsoil, a profile that encourages deep vine rooting and contributes to the wines' precision and minerality. Vine age averages over 30 years across the estate, and the domaine maintains modest yields through rigorous pruning and green harvest practices in the vineyard.

Winemaking Approach
Ghislaine Barthod's winemaking philosophy prioritizes finesse and terroir expression. Grapes are partially destemmed before fermentation, which proceeds exclusively with natural yeasts. After fermentation, wines are aged for approximately 20 months in small barrels with 20 to 25% new oak, a restrained use of oak that keeps the focus on the elegance and floral character for which Chambolle-Musigny is renowned. The result is a portfolio of wines described as refined, complex, and finesse-driven.
- Partial destemming before fermentation
- Natural yeasts only, no inoculation
- Approximately 20 months in small barrels
- 20-25% new oak, preserving aromatic delicacy
