📜History and Ownership

The Pira family's winemaking roots in the Langhe stretch back to the 17th century. After the death of Luigi Pira, the estate was acquired by the Boschis family, owners of the historic Giacomo Borgogno house, in 1980 to 1981. Chiara Boschis assumed management in 1990, transforming the estate into one of Barolo's most respected modern producers. Her brother Giorgio joined the operation in 2010, along with his wife Daniella and their three daughters, cementing the estate's future as a family-run project.

🌿Vineyards and Terroir

The estate's 11 hectares span three of Barolo's most distinguished communes: Barolo, Monforte d'Alba, and Serralunga d'Alba. The flagship Cannubi vineyard sits at 300 meters elevation with sandy clay soils and a favourable southern exposure, producing wines of finesse and aromatic complexity. Mosconi, in Monforte d'Alba, presents heavy clay soils rich in calcium carbonate and iron, lending greater structure and depth. The continental climate brings the morning fog (nebbia) that Nebbiolo thrives in, contributing to the grape's characteristic aromatics.

  • Cannubi: sandy clay, southern exposure, 300 meters elevation
  • Mosconi: heavy clay with calcium carbonate and iron
  • Continental climate with morning fog (nebbia) across all sites
  • Grapes grown: Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto

⚗️Winemaking Philosophy

Chiara Boschis is a member of the 'Barolo Boys' movement, the group of producers who modernized Barolo production from the 1990s onward. Her approach combines green harvesting to reduce yields, shorter fermentation times, and aging in French barriques rather than large traditional Slavonian oak casks. These techniques produce wines that are more approachable in youth while retaining the power and structure for which Barolo is known. All wines are bottled unfiltered and unfined to preserve authenticity and texture.
