The Consejo Regulador of DOCa Rioja rated the 2024 vintage Good, after blind tasting 3,239 samples. Its vintage register lists Very Good for 2020 to 2023 and Excellent for 2019 and 2025. The year brought variable weather through the cycle, low fertility and fruit set, a summer with optimal ripening conditions and a harvest marked by rain in its final phase. Weather was variable through the 2024 cycle across the DOCa, with low fertility and fruit set and a harvest marked by rain in its final phase. Fertility was the lowest of recent years, set was equally low and the expected crop limited. Oidium and mildew were present, but the treatments applied prevented significant damage in the vineyard. The summer was dry and warm, without extreme temperatures, and offered optimal ripening conditions. In late August and early September, with picking under way in some zones, heavy rain fell across the denomination; the risks it created had only a slight impact in the end. A 23 September 2024 analysis of grape and vineyard condition found ripening ahead of other years in Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, bringing harvest forward there, while Rioja Oriental ran behind the previous campaign; slight botrytis pressure was flagged. At its plenary session of 24 April 2025, after blind tasting 3,239 samples, the Consejo rated the vintage “Buena” (Good), and its whites and rosados “Muy Buenos” (Very Good).
