History and Heritage
Paitin was established in 1796, making it one of the oldest continuously operated estates in Barbaresco. The Pasquero-Elia family produced their first documented Barbaresco vintage in 1893 and began exporting commercially in 1898, well before Barbaresco achieved its modern DOCG status. Seven generations of the family have worked the same Neive vineyards, maintaining an unbroken thread of traditional Piedmontese viticulture across more than two centuries.

Vineyard and Terroir
The estate covers 17 hectares planted at 280-320 meters elevation in the Neive commune of the Barbaresco zone. Soils are calcareous white clay with sandstone, the classic Tortonian-era geology of the Langhe hills that drives the aromatic complexity and firm tannin structure characteristic of the area. Grapes grown include Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis, and Freisa. The centerpiece of the holdings is the Serraboella vineyard cru, the source of the flagship Sori Paitin Barbaresco. In a significant recent development, the estate expanded into the Basarin cru for the first time in 125 years.

Winemaking Philosophy
Paitin follows a traditional Piedmontese approach with extended maceration periods lasting three to eight weeks, which extracts deep color, tannin, and the full aromatic spectrum of Nebbiolo. The Barbaresco Sori Paitin is aged 24-30 months in large Slavonian oak casks, preserving the grape's character without the interference of heavy new oak influence. This method reflects the classic Langhe style that prioritizes cellar aging potential and terroir expression over immediately approachable fruit.
- Long macerations of 3-8 weeks for Nebbiolo
- Aged 24-30 months in large Slavonian oak casks
- Traditional style prioritizing structure and aging potential
- Organic certified since 2019 with biodynamic techniques
