The Estate
Flint Vineyard was founded in 2015 by Ben and Hannah Witchell in the Waveney Valley on the Norfolk-Suffolk border, near the villages of Earsham and Bungay. The vineyard takes its name from the copious flint stone found across the site, a defining feature of the free-draining gravel and flint soils that underpin the estate's wine quality. The 6-hectare site holds approximately 26,000 vines.

Climate and Soils
East Anglia is one of the driest and sunniest regions in the United Kingdom, giving Flint Vineyard a notable advantage for cool-climate viticulture. The free-draining gravel and flint soils encourage deep root development and stress the vines beneficially, concentrating aromatic compounds in the fruit. These conditions are particularly well suited to the Bacchus grape, which thrives in marginal climates.
- One of the driest and sunniest regions in the UK
- Free-draining gravel and flint soils promote vine stress and aromatic concentration
- Cool-climate viticulture produces naturally high-acid, aromatic whites
- Flint soil is a signature feature of the site's terroir
Grapes and Wine Style
Bacchus is the flagship grape at Flint Vineyard, vinified as a dry still white with pronounced aromatic character. The wines show notes of citrus, elderflower, gooseberry, and pear. The estate also produces a Bacchus Fumé variant, which undergoes oak barrel aging to add subtle smoke and spice alongside the grape's inherent aromatics. Other varieties grown include Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Noir Précoce.
- Bacchus produced as a dry, aromatic still white wine
- Bacchus Fumé variant aged in oak barrels for smoke and spice complexity
- Typical flavor profile includes citrus, elderflower, gooseberry, and pear
- Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Noir Précoce also cultivated on site
