  • South-southwest aspect ensures strong sun exposure and heat accumulation
  • Sits at 400 meters, giving it a notably cool microclimate

🪨Soils and Climate

The soils at Bricco di Treiso are composed of limestone and clay with a strong presence of calcareous blue marl, the classic Helvetian-era geology found across much of Treiso. This marl-dominant soil structure delivers the minerality and firm tannic backbone that distinguishes Treiso's Barbarescos from the sandier Serralunga-like profiles found elsewhere. The cool climate of the site is amplified by significant diurnal temperature swings, which preserve aromatic complexity and natural acidity in the Nebbiolo fruit.

  • Calcareous blue marl is the defining soil type, shared with many top Treiso MGAs
  • Limestone and clay contribute structure and drainage
  • Diurnal temperature variation preserves acidity and aromatic precision

🏡History and Recognition

Bricco di Treiso has long held a reputation as one of the finest vineyard sites in Treiso. Pio Cesare, one of Piedmont's most established historic producers, began bottling a single-vineyard Barbaresco from this site under the Il Bricco label at least as far back as the 1980s, well before the MGA system was formalized. The vineyard received official recognition as a Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva in 2007, when the Barbaresco Consorzio codified its cru classification system. Today it is also home to the Il Bricco agriturismo and the estate of Corrado Meinardi.

  • Pio Cesare's Il Bricco is one of the earliest single-vineyard Barbarescos from this site
  • MGA status granted in 2007 as part of Barbaresco's formal cru classification
  • Also known as Il Bricco or Il Bricco di Treiso in producer literature

🏆Notable Producers

Pio Cesare is the most internationally recognized producer working with Bricco di Treiso fruit, releasing the wine under the Il Bricco label. Founded in 1881, Pio Cesare is one of the most storied names in Piedmont and has long used this vineyard to showcase some of the best Treiso terroir. Corrado Meinardi is a smaller estate also associated with the site, alongside the Il Bricco agriturismo operation that bears the vineyard's name.

  • Corrado Meinardi: smaller estate producer from the same MGA
  • Il Bricco agriturismo: vineyard-based hospitality operation
