The northern Rhone ran hot in 2025. Condrieu had an ideal start, summer heat that arrived early and severe drought in the final weeks before harvest. Crozes-Hermitage was sunny and early with heatwaves in June and August, and Cote-Rotie had a hot, dry year. Condrieu yields were lower than expected, Hermitage yields were very low and Cote-Rotie yields were low. Across the Rhone Valley as a whole, a mild winter allowed the soil to fully recharge, then spring and early summer brought generally high temperatures, sometimes above seasonal averages. Ripening accelerated from the end of July, giving the vintage a two-week lead on 2024, and a wetter September required careful decisions on harvest dates. In Condrieu, conditions were ideal at first, but summer heat arrived early and the final weeks before harvest brought severe drought. Crozes-Hermitage had a sunny and early vintage with two heatwaves, one in June and a long one in August. Cote-Rotie had a hot and dry year. Heat ran through the season in Condrieu, Crozes-Hermitage and Cote-Rotie alike. Yields were lower across the north. Crozes-Hermitage produced fewer bunches than in previous years, down 50 percent for whites and 25 percent for reds. Condrieu yields were lower than expected, Hermitage yields were very low due to the weather and Cote-Rotie yields were low.

Appellation verdicts
The quality verdicts from the northern appellations were strong despite the small crops. In Cote-Rotie, David Duclaux declared: "2025 fulfills all its promises," and called it a superb vintage with wines of unmatched finesse and tannin quality despite the heat. Jacques Desvernois called Hermitage 2025 outstanding, with generous, full-bodied whites of beautiful aromatic richness and deeply colored, low-acid, very tannic reds with a savory texture. In Crozes-Hermitage, Yann Chave called quality high, with well-preserved balance, fresh acidity, moderate alcohol and ripe, soft tannins. Pierre-Jean Villa said Condrieu grape quality remained high and the wines are very promising, with some cuvees showing great aromatic richness and depth, and called 2025 another fine year ending in 5. Samuel Montgermont described the Saint-Peray whites as elegant and perfectly controlled, with Marsanne and Roussanne giving delicate floral and fruity expressions, moderate alcohol and finesse over power.
